I generally shy away from masked Cosplays as the most important thing to me in a portrait is the eyes of the subject. During the pandemic, however, masks were everywhere at the few conventions that I was able to photograph so we embraced them. I was floored when I saw the detail and care put into this Cosplay. I loved it even more when I found out that everything evolved from a Dino mask that one would find at the local toy store!

Our next convention is ConnectiCon XIX 2022 in Hartford, CT, July 14-17.

I photographed this Original Character Cosplay at Rose City Comic Con. The Honest Cosplayer is super talented and I have had the opportunity to photograph her on many occasions in such cosplays as Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda, and Suki From Avatar. Whoever she creates is always a piece of art and so photogenic. She will be judging at Rose City Comic Con this year! I am so sad to be missing Rose City this year but will be traveling to Alaska to photograph BEARS, one of my happy places.

I photographed this incredibly unique Oogie Boogie Ballgown Cosplay at Rose City Comic Con. Can you believe this is their first cosplay attempt?? I was floored – nailed it!

We continue with our amazing Disney Villain group from Rose City Comic Con 2019! Ursula was originally supposed to be played by a man for the Cosplay friend group (who all played a villain of the opposite gender), but when a friend got sick last minute, Rachel Clark flew in to save the day and fill the slot of Ursula from Walt Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. Praised for being humorous and frightening, Rachel left out no key parts when it came to role playing this fan loved villain.

💄This dastardly delight not only rocked the Cosplay floor with his style but had us all howling with laughter🤣—truly a villain with a sense of humor! And guess what? He’s been immortalized with a Golden Ticket for the FotoNostrum Cosplay 50 Exhibition.

I usually spend my time on the convention floors searching for eye-catching cosplays that stand out from all the others. At Rose City Comic Con in 2019, however, it was not only the cosplays the Disney Villain group wore that stood out it was their hilarious personalities as well. I have to admit it was a bit hard for me to focus at times as all of us had giggling fits and tears from laughter. This is the unforgettable Cruella De Vil from the group.

This unbelievable group of Cosplayers epitomizes why I love working on the Cosplay 50 Project. I met and photographed Hook and later on friends at Rose City Comic Con in 2019. They were originally intended to be Genderbend Disney Villain group, however one member was sick and canceled last minute. Ursula flew to Portland immediately to fill the spot.

To say it was one of my most joyous photoshoots ever is probably an understatement. I don’t know if I have ever laughed quite as much as I did photographing them. It was absolutely amazing. They even came back the next day in plain clothes for a “normal” photograph. I have always wanted to show those in the non-Cosplay world as a comparison. In fact, that was one of my original ideas for the project. However, after attending conventions and seeing how long the transformations take and how many people come for only one day of the convention I soon realized that would be more difficult than I had hoped.

I hope to meet up with them again at a convention. Their group Cosplays are insanely good. Please check them out!
